Book Launch in Uganda
Book Launch at International Literature Conference Organised by FEMRITE in Uganda
I was excited to be approached by FEMRITE Uganda Women Writers Association to launch my book: Nalule’s Travels and Adventures: Writing for Survivors in Africa, to be held at an International Literature Conference at Kyambogo University, Kampala on Friday, 24th November 2023. I presented my paper (see PowerPoint attached) in a plenary session in the morning.
The book launch session “The Great Harvest” was at 4-6pm and closed the conference. This included remarks by all four authors (see photo of four books attached). Ruth Ojiambo-Ochieng, Co-Founder of the Women’s Regional Network, East Africa, and Dr Penelope Yanni, Psychiatrist and Director of Plaza Psychology & Psychiatry, USA, also gave their remarks on my book (see Ruth’s speech attached).
The Guest of Honour was Honourable Rachel Magoola, MP from Eastern Uganda (Busoga) and the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Forum for Creative Arts. She gave a talk (attached) and sang Obangaina which was recorded by her together with Afrigo Band, a very popular group in Kampala (see OBANGAINA BY RACHAEL MAGOOLA[ THE MIGHTY AFRIGO BAND] – Bing video). Rachel and other keynote speakers including Hilda J Twogyweirwe, Executive Director of FEMRITE, Professor Egara Kabaji, Pan African Writers Association, Professor Tina Steiner, English Department, Stellenbosch University, and Godwin Siundu, Department of Literature, University of Nairobi, signed all of our books and also banners that had been prepared by FEMRITE (see photos). I also sold copies of my book at the event and signed these. There was dancing and celebrating at the event which was followed by a press conference (see African writers underserved – Experts – 93.3 KFM). I was honoured to launch my book at this event and in Uganda and am grateful to FEMRITE for their support.
